Multiple synced vantage points, one survey night
DarkFlight is hired by the survey night - from a single Pro unit to three-kit sets covering every elevation of a building - or purchased outright. New to it? Enquire and we’ll make sure it fits before you book.
Simple per-night pricing.
2 × DarkFlight
- two elevations or positions covered in one survey night
- best for single buildings and typical emergence surveys
3 × DarkFlight
- one of the three is a Pro - radiometric detection on the hardest elevation
- networked screen included - watch all units at once, or remotely from a phone
- best for complex roosts, multiple elevations, high-stakes sites
1 × DarkFlight Pro
- far better detection on hot evenings when the building sits near bat temperature
- best for warm-weather peak season and thermally awkward structures
All hires: from 2pm in 24-hour periods · hand delivered · first survey can be accompanied free, with free delivery on your first hire. Standard vs Pro: every feature is identical - Pro adds radiometric thermal. See the difference → · How much could it save you? ↓
How much could DarkFlight save you?
Put in your own figures - nothing here is assumed or averaged. It is a rough estimate to bring to your enquiry, not a quote.
Fill in your figures on the left and your estimate appears here.
You would recover 0 ecologist-hours (about 0 working days).
That time is worth £0 of subcontractor fees over a season.
—
Enough recovered time to take on about 0 more surveys - up to £0 of extra work
Only if you have the field nights to run them - field capacity, not desk time, is the limit.
Estimate only, from the figures you entered - not a quote. DarkFlight pricing is per Standard unit; exact hire blocks and any Pro units are arranged when you enquire. For salaried staff, freed time is value recovered rather than cash, unless you redeploy it or cut overtime.
Purchase DarkFlight
Evidence packages, auto features, species ID classification, rapid export - yours, not hired.
DarkFlight
Own it outright - every feature, yours to keep.
DarkFlight Pro
Enhanced detection - radiometric thermal core.
Coverage planner
Find your survey site and drop a DarkFlight unit to see two things at once: the thermal field of view (the wedge - drag the green dot to position it, the white dot to aim and size it) and the acoustic detection range (the rings - every unit has a built-in omnidirectional detector). The colours show where detection is reliable. Add a unit for each elevation, and pair any unit with one external detector to extend acoustic coverage where you expect the most activity.
- To ~10 m: quiet, high-frequency species - brown long-eared, grey long-eared, greater horseshoe, lesser horseshoe, barbastelle
- To ~30 m: common species - common pipistrelle, soprano pipistrelle, Nathusius' pipistrelle, Daubenton's, Natterer's, whiskered and Brandt's bats
- To ~60 m: loud, far-carrying species only - noctule, serotine, Leisler's (the loudest carry further still)
Closer is better: the inner rings pick up even the quietest bats, and species drop out as the range grows. Detectors: every DarkFlight unit includes a built-in omnidirectional detector. You can pair each unit with one external detector - the matching number, colour and link line show which detector belongs to which unit. Ranges are indicative field figures for common UK species and vary with species, weather and site; they are a planning guide, not a guarantee of detection.

Hire FAQs
How does delivery work?+
DarkFlight is hand delivered; delivery is free on your first hire. Hire starts from 2pm and runs in 24-hour periods, so an evening emergence survey and next-morning re-entry are covered by one night.
Do we need training to use it?+
Setup is one switch - no cables, sockets or plugs. Your first survey can be accompanied free, so your team learns the workflow on a real job.
Standard or Pro - which do we get?+
Both are available. All features are identical; Pro adds radiometric thermal, which keeps detection far stronger on hot summer evenings when a building sits at a similar temperature to a bat. Not sure which fits your sites? Just ask when you enquire.
Can we book longer blocks?+
Yes - every option has 5-night and 30-night block pricing (shown above), and repeat clients get priority booking through peak season.
Can we buy instead of hire?+
Yes. DarkFlight is £3,250 and DarkFlight Pro is £9,999.
How do we pay?+
Invoice after booking - we confirm dates by email or phone and handle payment by invoice, so there’s no checkout to fight with.
